Self-doubt is one of the most common things that holds back a lot of up and starting entrepreneurs from realizing their full potential. Many of them have spent countless hours pondering on if they are going to be worthy of what they have, if they truly have the ability to lead their business, etc.
These thoughts do no good for us and only lead us spiraling down an abyss of self-doubt and negative self-esteem. The hours we could have spent being productive are wasted down the drain as we let ourselves get carried away by a whirlwind of negative self-talk and self-doubt. There may even be times when we feel like an imposter doing all these impossible tasks even when we think we shouldn’t be able to.
It’s about time we let ourselves free of this kind of thinking and we all know that you also know this deep inside. Luckily for you, here are some ways you can achieve this:
Make everything a learning experience
To be human is to make mistakes. It will happen from time to time no matter how prepared we think we are. This is because we can’t possibly predict every single factor or event that will come our way. Hence, mistakes will be made and there’s nothing else we can do about it.
What we can do afterward though and the thing that truly counts is the way we recover from it. How we decide to stand up and keep on fighting is what will truly count and not the fact that we made a mistake itself.
Therefore, what we must remember is not that we made a mistake, but rather what we learned from such mistakes and how to make ourselves work better with this new knowledge and experience.
Appreciate your victories
Just like we tend to notice and learn from our mistakes, we should believe that our successes, no matter how small, are worthy of attention and praise too.
So appreciate every victory and every milestone you achieve both in your professional life and personal life no matter how insignificant they may seem to you or other people. This will keep you driven in a good way, boost your self-esteem, and give you a better self-image than before.
Remember to build yourself up rather than tearing yourself down.
Don’t be too affected by others’ opinion
Listen, there’s something that we call constructive criticism and plain hateful bashing. It’s quite easy to differentiate between the two because the former is something you actively seek out to improve your work or yourself. While the former often comes from people you weren’t even interested in and comes without you even asking. The former also comes from a place of concern while the latter comes from a place of jealousy towards you.
Others’ opinions and criticism are inevitable especially as our work expands and starts to affect others’ lives. There may also be people who are jealous of you and give you harsh opinions behind your back. There is nothing we can do about them, but there is something we can do about how we react to them.
People who are jealous feed off of your despair and would love more than anything for you to fall to their level. You won’t improve as a business if you keep trying to please everybody so why not go for what you truly want and believe in for your brand and work on your business regardless of what others are expecting from you?
Conclusion
Having self-doubt doesn’t just magically appear within us overnight as it is the result of the accumulation of many different negative habits. Therefore, what we can do to remove it from our system is by implementing healthier habits such as the ones mentioned above and slowly but surely improve our lives for the better!
